Education and Awareness

Launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario Envirothon Virtual Lab is a digital hub for students and educators. Each week, Forests Ontario will release content focusing on a different core Envirothon topic, including expert-led videos and engaging home-based activities.

Every year, Forests Ontario connects thousands of youth across the country with forestry and environmental professionals through the Forestry in the Classroom program.

Focus on Forests is Forests Ontario’s collection of free educational resources. Focus on Forests provides lesson plans, study guides, activities, fact sheets, presentations, and more to help teachers bring forestry to the classroom and take learning outdoors.

Can’t tell a pine from a poplar? Don’t know the colour of a Paper Birch tree’s bark? To help answer these questions and more, we created Tree Bee, a tree identification tool for communities, families and classrooms. It’s a great chance to get kids excited about our forests, and the perfect opportunity for friends, families and teachers to spend time learning together outdoors.

Forests Ontario’s Forestry Connects program engages Ontario high school students in immersive field trips into forestry-dependent communities, where they are able to learn everything there is to know about forest management in Ontario and get a first-hand glimpse into what it’s like to work in the province’s forestry sector.
